visit to hainan island

It was one of the most interesting 10 days on the Hainan Island situated on the south of the Mainland China. This is the smallest province in China though she is the biggest island, next to Taiwan.

A 71-year-old man selling sugar cane walking along the Xinxiu beach in Haikou City.

This lady, in her 60s, is selling shellfish that she actually dug with her bare hands this bucket full of shellfish around the port area at Changhua, a fishing port.

Wonderful photos and examples of the health and longevity when our bodies are not abused. I think the second picture contains periwinkles, an aunt would prepare them with pride yet I was too young to appreciate a plateful of tiny shells that required a pin to find the meal within. Have a wonderful day.

Just to let you know: A comment was left here yesterday for you.I believe what I said was: The photos are wonderful and reflect the beauty and strength of the human body when not abused. Also I wondered if the woman had periwinkles in the bucket. They evoked memories (!)

pauline: finally I'm able to see your comments. These could be periwinkles but...there was an elderly man who went to pick slugs among the rocks. He said that he would boil the sea-slugs and sell them to the children as tid-bits. It was eye-opening to me and special indeed. Thank you for dropping by.

I love these pics! (especially the old man) They are simplicity and Old World compared to what I see here.
