Sydney and Tokyo were the first to stage these concerts and closing at New Jersey and Rio de Janerio. There had been countdowns for the past few days! Certainly excitement had been generated. What do the organisers hope to achieve?
Al Gore, the organiser of this event said, "By engaging individuals all over the world, Live Earth will drive corporations and governments to tackle the climate crisis." I wonder! I must be getting old...
Celebrities were invited to stage...is this publicity stunt for them? Are they paid for the occasion? Imagine the amount of electricity to power these concerts -- mixed message for energy conservation?
I was told proceeds from the ticket sales were used "to distribute power-efficient light bulbs and other measures which will offset the shows' greenhouse gas emission"! Really?
Today's number is 777.

I heard on the news last night that animals raised for human consumption are the largest source of greenhouse gas. It was said that if we all turned to vegetables for our only source of food Global warming would go away. That said, I wonder if the Live Earth concerts will serve meat?
bob: haha! Ridiculous! Remember animals breed. And they breed perhaps 10X as fast, if not faster. I do not wish to be swamped with animals around while humans graze on the greens!
One does wonder if this kind of All day ALL night Concetts actually DO raise conciouness...? I didn't see very much of it but I notived that there were many many videos concerning the problems we face....That in itself can't be a bad thing...So that in between the music people see some important information.
I dn't think performers are paid for this kind of thing, at all. Having been involved in Benefits which utilized singing talent, allbeit, Broadway Show type talent, no one performer got paid a dime in the twenty years I was the the Co-Chair of this event. I don't know about the other costs you mentioned in the concerts today----this was a HUGE HUGE Undertaking, and I admire ALL the people involved and those who organized and pulled this off....I honestly do not know how they accomplished such an enormous task.

Did you watch any of the concerts? Dynamite music. I especially liked KT Tunstall and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. You can pickup any of the concerts on MSN. I didn't see anyone eating burgers or hotdogs.

I think it is all volunteer but I do always wonder if the $$ raised really gets to where it can be used most.
We do need our consciousness raised constantly though. I tend to forget to do stuff I could do...like take cloth bags to the store! And I get slack about using energy etc.

The English has a tradition of carrying their own shopping bags unlike here, the number of plastic bags flying around some times when there is a strong gust of wind!
