obesity

It appears obesity is lowest in East Asia while a rise in percentile in other parts of the world.

Attribute to drinking Chinese tea or green tea without sugar and this beverage breaks down fats?

I'd experimented this in cooking -- putting a couple of chinese tea leaves in a pot of mutton, beef or duck soup and I see the fat dissolves or disappearing. Naturally this did not remove the fat altogether.

They say that you are what you eat. Americans, pigs that we are, eat mass quantities of food, frequent high fat fast food eateries and as a group are gluttons. No wonder most Americans are overweight. And then we wonder why so many are having hips and knees replaced . .. duh! Carrying all that weight has to have some consequence. Something has to give!

There are probably all kinds of reasons obesity is lower there...I'd think people are more active, eat a lower fat diet with lots of whole grain rice etc., and much less junk food, especially people in rural areas. But I don't know about the geen tea thing...I actually don't like the taste of it!

I drink a lot of green tea...just about every day. I guess I should be pretty thin....oops! Maybe I'm asking a little TOO much of the tea.

bob: I guess affluence in a country does produce more fat people. Fat people are appearing in this part of the world!

MOI: Junk food -- there are lots of junk food around, literally east and west.

I guess poverty is one reason.

I found lots of salt preserved foods. I like the savory tidbits though!!! Processed food on the rise, especially from China!

I understand why you don't like the taste of green tea, especially those in teabags! I'm not a green tea drinker but there are several hundreds of varieties of chinese tea these days, it's amazing!

Do you know that green tea is cooling to the body. There are two categories of chinese tea: cooling ones for summer and warming varieties for winter.

joy: hoho...

Aside from the hidden substances in our food chain I think obesity is caused from lack of movement. We eat and sit. My grandfather at 80 was still doing physical labor and intentional exercises. He would chop wood, take walks, stretch and touch his toes. We argue over who holds the television remote control. Most gym classes have been removed from school programs. Duh, children eat and don't move, this is a no brainer but then, no on really asked my opinion about how to make changes for the better. All we can hope to do is start within ourselves and our family units creating a ripple effect. Big hugs for the nutrition wave!!! Great post....
